Printmaking

The printmaking area combines traditional and contemporary printmaking practices in a non-toxic printmaking studio in order to provide a dynamic educational experience for the contemporary printmaking student.
The printmaking curriculum focuses on intaglio, relief, screen printing and the book arts.  The introduction to printmaking class prepares students with a rigorous foundation in the processes of printmaking while the intermediate and advanced classes provide opportunities for hybrid, experimental, collaborative and digital practices.  All classes and studios maintain a non-toxic contemporary printmaking practice that highlights safety without compromising quality.

Facilities & Special Equipment

The printmaking studios are located in the Kellogg Research Building (KRB).  The screen printing studio includes individual printing stations, a variety of screens, a vacuum exposure unit and a washout sink.  The relief/etching print area contains two Takach etching presses and two Brand presses with an adjacent plate prep room with ferric acid etching tanks.  A NuArc exposure unit is available for photo etching processes. The print area computer lab has individual workstations, digital printing capabilities and platemaking capabilities on a Xante Platemaker.  The book arts room has small tools for bookmaking and will house two restored letterpress proof presses that are currently undergoing complete renovation. A classroom space for classroom discussions and meetings is located just off the book room.
